The starting point

Choose a few useful sizes before choosing a large set. Make sure the containers fit both your food and your available storage.

Start with what comes home

Look at the groceries and leftovers you store most often. Write down the handful of container sizes that would be useful for those foods. A set can include pieces you rarely need, so count the usable containers rather than relying only on the number printed on the package.

Measure the shelf and the lid

Check shelf depth, drawer height, and the space needed to remove a container. Compare dimensions with lids attached. Decide where empty pieces and spare lids will go. A small family of matching sizes may be easier for you to manage than several unrelated sets.

Read the use and care labels

Check the exact product instructions for the ways you plan to use it, including cleaning, temperature changes, and reheating. Do not assume that a lid shares every use rating of its container. Look for replacement-part availability if keeping the system for several years matters to you.
